Walk down any supermarket aisle and every jar of ghee promises purity. So how do you tell a ghee worth its price from one that only looks the part?
Start with your senses
Good ghee has a warm golden colour and a rich, roasted-nut aroma the moment you open the jar. It should taste clean and smooth, with a gentle lingering finish — never sharp, waxy or flat. Texture varies with temperature, from silky liquid to soft and grainy, and both are perfectly normal.
Read the label, properly
Look for a short ingredient list: milk fat, and nothing else. Check the FSSAI licence number, the best-before guidance and the net quantity. A brand that is proud of its ghee will tell you how it was made.
Why a lab report matters
Home “tests” you find online can’t reliably detect adulteration. The only real answer is a laboratory analysis. That’s why we make our ghee’s lab report available on the Swarna Ghee page — so you don’t have to take our word for it.
Store it well
Keep ghee at room temperature, away from moisture, and always use a dry spoon. Do that, and a good jar stays beautiful for months.
